and instead trying to do it when temps up here are still hovering in the below-zero to above-zero range. Even more unfortunate - it is the ABC station where all of my wife's daily programs are recorded.īecause we're not moving during the summer. Unfortunately, it is the one with the main channel and 3 sub-channels. Where before I get 2 channels and their sub-channels (for a total of 6), the current setup in the new place is not going to be able to pick up one of the 2 channels. Unfortunately, my current antenna system isn't going to cut it in the new place. with deer and wildlife that walk right up to your front door. We bought and are in the process of finalizing a move to a house that is even more remote. ![]() but apparently it wasn't remote enough for us. ![]() Although my opportunity to give it a real test is going to be hampered for the next few weeks. It should show you the file you extracted select it and wait for the firmware to load (takes a couple of minutes) and the box to reboot. Put that in the root directory of a FAT32-formatted drive (a thumb drive works fine), then go to Menu / System / Software Update. If you run into that problem, try the second one.ĭownload and extract the file usb_upgrade_all_flash.bin. But I've read reports that recordings don't always start reliably with the first version. The second version has some cosmetic bugs that the first version doesn't have. They are also compatible with the iView 3200s, although the "RF Out" menu option doesn't do anything (the 3200s have a hardware channel 3/4 switch for RF Out, while the 3500s are controlled through the menu option). Try one of these earlier firmware versions:ĭespite the warning on iView's web site, these versions are compatible with later iView units. ![]() As long as it doesn't lose a schedule - it may fit in fine for her daily shows. I think I may gamble $30 and try the Iview. but never being sure whether something got recorded is a fatal flaw for me. I would be just fine with every other limitation of these boxes for my purpose. And now that I know what is finally causing it (and can reliably trigger it), I have to retire the box. Missing her daily programs today was simply the last straw. Occasionally time gets corrected and whatever that correction is blanks out the timer recording. However, the channel often has drifts on the time sent via PSIP and can be either 2 - 3 minutes slow. For my wife's daily shows - they are all on a single channel which was a perfect use for the Mediasonic. Now that I'm aware of it - I can trigger the bug at-will on one particular sub-channel. Looking back on it now - I think a problem that I was attributing to the Sandisk Ultra flash drive may likely have been this bug. I was using the box to handle my wife's daily chat shows after which I would pull them off, commercial-remove them, and drop them into Plex. This bug has pretty much ended my use of the Mediasonic box also. (BTW, Channel Master had an interesting-looking remote for their discontinued CM-7003 version of this box, but I never bought one of their boxes so I never got a chance to try their remote.) That remote was the original justification for cross-flashing my first HomeWorx with iView firmware.īut aside from the iView 3500 remote, I've always preferred using a universal remote with these boxes. It's a larger, easier-to-read version of the small HW-180 style, with a block of learning buttons so it can control your TV (at least well enough to use it with the iView). ![]() So far the only OOTB remote I've liked for any of these boxes is the one iView sells with the 3500. And the FF/Rew and Skip rockers are just weird. Black on grey (or is it grey on black?) is just too hard to read. I can never tell which buttons are which on the bottom. The HW-150 uses a different, slightly larger remote, but I don't like it either. In fact it even sends the same codes as the (new) HW-180 remote, although some of the buttons have different labels and functions. Terk's remote is a little better made with slightly nicer buttons, but it's still the same design and tiny size. Most of these MStar-based boxes use a remote like the HW-130's, which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so tiny! How do folks ever manage to hit the right button on those things?
